Man charged with having handmade rifle

Kota Kinabalu: A 25-year-old jobless man was charged at the Magistrate's Court here Friday with having a handmade air rifle.Castor Eusebio S Majanggon pleaded not guilty to having the weapon without licence at 6pm on Sept 9 at a unit in Taman Jaya Diri, Sepanggar.Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus set Nov 30 for case management and offered Castor bail at RM6,000 in two sureties.ADVERTISEMENT The offence under Section 8(a) of the Arms Act 1960 carries a jail term of up to seven years or a fine of up to RM10,000 or both on conviction.In another case, a 42-year-old man was jailed 25 months for stealing from a car.Jobless Tee Chee Siong admitted to stealing a pair of shoes, a bag containing clothes and a handbag containing personal documents in a car parked near the Tang Dynasty Hotel, Jalan Api-Api here at 12.30am on Oct 15.Prosecuting officer, Inspector P Nathan told the court that Tee was seen by the car owner Md Nurhawarizmi Razmi while he was in the car rummaging through the things inside.ADVERTISEMENT Tee tried to escape but the car owner managed to catch him with help from the public and handed him to police.Meanwhile, in the Sessions Court, a 22-year-old Filipina was jailed six months for overstaying.
