Ipoh: Malaysian Consumer Association has mixed feelings on the 1Malaysia People's Aid (BR1M) payment which has been raised for all categories next year.Association secretary general Datuk Amarjit Singh said the government took into account the plight of the Rakyat, especially those in the low household income group but felt the increased amount could have been utilised in other essential areas such as healthcare.

However, he thanked the Prime Minister for the RM1.2 billion allocation for sports which Amarjit, who is also Malaysian National Cycling Federation vice president, said must be utilised for the right purpose.

Meanwhile Perak DAP is disappointed with the reduction for development expenditure which is only 18.3pc of the total budget of RM262.8 billion compared to the high operating expenditure which accounted for 81.7pc.

It's chairman Nga Kor Ming said it is again a deficit budget of RM43.15 million or 3.15pc and a failure on the part of the BN government to keep the deficit below 3.1pc.

"The country's debts rose from RM26.5 billion to RM29.17 billion which is 11.1pc of the budget to be utilised to pay the debts amounting to RM2.46 billion a month," said the Taiping MP.
