Another staff nabbed; remand of 5 extended

Tawau: A senior staff of the Water Department here is the latest to be hauled up by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to facilitate investigations into the RM3.3 billion scandal involving the department. The 35-year-old was brought before Magistrate Muhammad Faizal Che Saad, who granted a five-day remand order, making him the fourth individual from the district, so far, to be roped in. The other three officers, aged between 40 and 50, who were arrested last Thursday, have been further remanded another five days from Oct. 23.

MACC Deputy Chief Commissioner (operations) Datuk Azam Baki, said it seized RM8.4 million in cash from those arrested in the second phase of the operation. Meanwhile, in KOTA KINABALU, five of the 14 engineers, who had been under remand since Oct. 20, were released on Monday.Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus released the five engineers from the northern and central part of the State, on bail of RM50,000 undeposited in two sureties each.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

MACC investigating officer Mohd Faliq Basiruddin informed that the five would be recalled anytime if needed to help in the investigation.

The five were among the 19 engineers, who were nabbed on Oct 20 by the MACC across the State in a second wave of operations, and were remanded for seven days.
