Musa tells students: Be an example

Kota Kinabalu: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman called on students in higher learning institutions to live the example of Sabah as a State where people of different races and religions live in harmony. He said the closeness of Sabahans despite being of different ethnicity and faith has proven to be the source of integration and high level of understanding among them which should also be the culture of the younger generation in higher learning institutions.Speaking to the Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) newly-elected Student Representative Council Exco who paid him a courtesy call, Monday, Musa reminded that peace and harmony must always be preserved.ADVERTISEMENT "No one must be allowed to destroy it by sowing the seeds of hatred, suspicion and sedition," he said.He said the people in the State have been living in peace and harmony although there are more than 32 ethnic communities and different religions."You must be responsible not only to fulfil the hopes and trust of your parents and families but also the hopes of the government and the people," he said.He hoped the UMS Student Representative Council Exco would set the best example in fostering unity, cooperation, leadership and academic excellence to others.ADVERTISEMENT Touching on the 2017 Budget, Musa reiterated that the Government has never neglected the interest of students in higher learning institutions, a point proven when it allocated RM7.4 million for 20 public universities to upgrade its academic quality towards the global stage.He also noted that the government has allocated RM4.3 billion on scholarships in 2017.

He said as reflected in the State budget, the State Government has never neglected the future of the younger generation but set out huge allocations to all ministries related to youths and human capital, skills development, trainings and higher education."This is proof that we value all of you as leaders of the future," he said, adding that the Government welcomed their views, ideas and suggestions so long they can serve the best interest of the State and people.
