Man denies having penknife in public without permit

Kota Kinabalu: A 39-year-old man was charged in the Magistrate's Court on Wednesday with having a penknife in public without a permit.Junaidy Jamil pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus to the charge against him.

He is accused of having the weapon at 12.30pm on Oct 6 this year at Lorong Juara Ikan 3 in Sadong Jaya, here.

The offence under Section 6(1) of the Corrosive, Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons (Amended) Act 2014 carries a jail term of between five years and 10 years, and whipping, on conviction.

Balitus fixed Nov 8 this year for case management and released Junaidy on a bail of RM3,000 in two local sureties.

In another case, a 26-year-old woman claimed trial to failing to explain how she had obtained a smartphone believed to be a stolen item.

Siti Rafida Ibrahim allegedly committed the offence at 1pm in the middle of August this year at the Stop N Buy shop in Asia City, near here.

Her case would be mentioned on Nov 18 this year and the court offered Siti Rafida bail at RM2,000 in two local sureties.

Inspector P. Nathan appeared for the prosecution.
