Sabah Closed Youth C'ship to feature strong field

Kota Kinabalu: A strong field is expected in the 2nd series of the Yonex Sabah Closed Youth Badminton Championship to be held at OJS Hall in Kota Marudu from November 27-29.Sabah Badminton Association (SBA) President Janih Bangud said apart from local entries, players from Badminton Association of Sarawak, Labuan and Putrajaya are also set to show up.

"The participation of players from these three bodies will certainly raise the level of competition for the local boys and girls.

"It will also give opportunity for the coaches to find out how far their trainees have progressed with their respective training programme."

Districts throughout Sabah expected to take part are Pitas, Kudat, Kota Belud, Tuaran, Ranau, Tongod, Beluran, Sandakan, Kinabatangan, Lahad Datu, Kunak, Semporna, Tawau, Kota Kinabalu, Penampang, Putatan, Papar, Membakut, Beaufort, Sipitang, Kuala Penyu, Tambunan, Keningau, Tenom, Nabawan and hosts Kota Marudu.

Janih said 18 categories will be staged with boys and girl singles in the Under- 9, 11, 13, 15,17 as well as doubles for boys and girls Under-11, 13,15 and 17.

He urged all clubs and interested parties to send their entries through their respective associations.

Closing date is on November 18 at 2pm and the draw will be held on November 20, 2pm at the SBA office in Kota Kinabalu Sports Complex.

Meanwhile, the President also expressed his gratitude to Kota Marudu District Badminton Association for hosting the tournament.
