Kadazan language drive shows results: Official

Putatan: Kadazan Society Sabah (KSS) Putatan branch Youth Chairperson Juliana Jimis invites all those who believe the Kadazan language will disappear in the next generation to support her efforts and activities instead. "The language will disappear if you are not doing anything," she said."For us in Putatan, that will never happen because we are almost at the end of a one-month campaign and the response to learn and speak Kadazan among the youths was remarkable," she said. ADVERTISEMENT "It takes discussion among youth with interesting activities to make them proud of their own dialect such as talent search and composing their own song. "Our KSS youth wing managed to compose and record their own campaign song 'Ogingo om Ohinuud Boos Kadazan (My lovely and beautiful Kadazan Language)'," Jimis said.Jimis was speaking after the highlight of the campaign which was an audition for Radio and TV DJ/announcer held at a prominent inn, here. Fifteen youths were shortlisted for the audition which was conducted by three Kadazan DJs cum announcers from SabahVFM.ADVERTISEMENT The invitation which was announced via the radio attracted many talents including former State-level beauty queens and singers. They included Amber Sion, the current Unduk Ngadau for Putatan who speaks fluent Kadazan and Shirley Anthony Danggoh from Tambunan who was first runner-up at the KDCA Kaamatan pageant. Shirley can also speak fluently in Bahasa Malaysia and Chinese.

Others who registered for the audition through KSS Putatan but were unable to attend on Tuesday can still go for audition at the RTM building in Kota Kinabalu.With such response, the Kadazan language will be widely spoken in future and the young people will pass their knowledge to the next generation. "It was discussed live on air in my telephone talk show and a prominent senior citizen said those who think Kadazan language will disappear are out of their minds." Another popular DJ Dennis Primus gave a short lesson and demonstration on how to read the news on the radio or TV.
