Malaysia welcomes Bahraini investors

Putra Jaya: Malaysia welcomes investors from Bahrain to seek opportunities in the real estate sector in Putrajaya and Labuan, Deputy International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Ahmad Maslan said. He said Bharani investors were ready to invest in Malaysia through joint ventures and business-to-business (B2B) arrangements with Malaysian companies.The interest was conveyed by Bahrain-Malaysia Business and Friendship Society (BMBFS) president Shaikh Duaij Isa Al-Khalifa at the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between BMBFS and Malaysia-Bahrain Business Council (MHS) here Thursday. ADVERTISEMENT Shaikh Duaij Isa inked the MoU on behalf of BMBFS, while MBBC, a platform for Malaysian investors to enter Bahrain, was represented by its pro tem president, Datuk Wira Dr Maznah Hamid. Shaikh Duaij said the upsurge in interest among Arab investors towards Malaysia was a positive sign to its economic growth. "As Islamophobia among Western countries has impeded investments from Arab countries, Arab investors have set their sight on Malaysia which boasts economic and political stability. "Malaysia is also very fortunate to have escaped major natural disasters, and it is reputed to be an investor-friendly country," he told reporters after the ceremony. ADVERTISEMENT In 2015, Malaysia-Bahrain trade declined 11.1 per cent to RM435.9 million from RM490.7 million in 2014. However, Malaysia's export to Bahrain last year rose to RM226.1 million from RM214.1 million previously.

Ahmad hopes the bilateral ties between Malaysia and Bahrain could be strengthened through the proposed establishment of the Embassy of Bahrain in Malaysia. Currently, the Bahraini Embassy in Thailand also serves Malaysia, he said. – Bernama
