Syabu: Two Filipinos sentenced to death

Tawau: Two Filipinos were sentenced to death by the High Court here on Thursday for trafficking 2,125.1gms of syabu two years ago.Judicial Commissioner Azhahari Kamal Ramli meted out the sentence to Ibni Ladja Lakibul, 42, and Juris Rualdes, 46, after they were found guilty of committing the crime at 10.30am on Sept 29, 2014 along Jalan Tengah Nipah in Lahad Datu.
Ibni, who holds a Philippines passport and Juris, who is a permanent resident, were charged under Section 39 B (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 which carries the death sentence on conviction.

The accused travelling on a Perodua Kancil were arrested while en route to Lahad Datu town from Tambisan.
It was revealed during trial that the duo were arrested by police in their bid to escape a roadblock and that the drugs were found in the boot of their Perodua Kancil car.
The prosecution had called 10 witnesses at the prosecution stage while Ibni and Juris defended themselves in their defence.
