Sabah schools emerge tops

Kota Kinabalu: SMK Madai, Kunak and SMK Kundasang, Ranau emerged victorious in the Hap Seng Group D-Code Programme, winning a three day educational and technological visit to Kuala Lumpur in November. The programme saw an overwhelming participation of 99 per cent of secondary schools throughout Sabah. Participants were given exposure to the way to use Raspberry Pi and web programming such as HTML, CSS and Javascript that allowed them to expand their skills in creating and writing code for software applications.ADVERTISEMENT According to Sabah Education Department Director Datuk Maimunah Suhaibul the effort by Hap Seng Group was commendable and the department appreciated the collaboration."This is to ensure that the young people in Sabah would not be left behind in the development mainstream that stresses on various knowledge and skills. "It is my hope that students who participated in the programme can use their experiences gained to improve their personal abilities and skills." She said this at the programme closing ceremony at Plaza Shell here on Thursday.ADVERTISEMENT The programme which is the 25th camp since May 2015 has successfully reached out to 1,061 students and 212 teachers.Hap Seng Group CSR Director Puan Sri Maimon Arif Patail said the skillsets and attributes focussed in the programme are aligned to the aspiration of the Malaysian Education Blueprint 2013-2015.

The eight schools projects shortlisted out of 193 submissions statewide were SMK Sanzac Kota Kinabalu, SMK Shan Tao Kota Kinabalu, SMK Madia Kunak, SMK Sepagaya Lahad Datu, SMK Sindumin Sipitang, SMK Tenom Tenom, SMK Pinggan Pinggan Pitas and SMK Kundasang Ranau.Also present was Ministry of Resource Development and Information Technology Permanent Secretary Datuk Bruno Vun, Google Developer Group Kota Kinabalu (GDGKK) community manager Lorna Timba and Asia Ability Teambuilding Specialist and Director David Powell.
