Alor Setar: Safa Penampang refuted claims made by certain quarters on the status quo of the district's football association. Its President Reggie Sua said the association has been active since its registration with the State Sports Commisioner in 2014."We have also been sanctioned by the Sabah Football Association (Safa)," he said during a press conference, here, on Wednesday night. ADVERTISEMENT According to Reggie confusions on who was helming Safa Penampang arose before the recently concluded Chief Minister's Cup Inter-District Football Tournament in August."I was contacted by Safa then (to clarify the matter). We have registered ourselves with the Sports Commissioner and the president for Safa Penampang then was Datuk William Sampil (former Penampang District Officer)."When he (William) retired, he had also relinquished his post as Safa Penampang. "And according to the Association's constitution, if the president resigned, then the deputy president, which was me at that time, will be the acting president."ADVERTISEMENT The confusion arose due to claims made by certain quarters that the current District Officer Luvita Koisun is the president for Safa Penampang."But it was not mentioned in our constitution that district officers will be automatically appointed as the president," he said, adding that he had even contacted Luvita personally on the matter.

Meanwhile, he also urged football match organisers to notify Safa Penampang on their events."They need to do this so that the events will be conducted smoothly, professionally and any issues like players suspension can be handled well."We also hope all certified coaches and referees who are active within the district to be registered with Safa Penampang so that we can update our database."On their involvement in the People's Football League (LBR), Reggie disclosed that they faced a challenging task as this is their debut participation in the tournament. However, he is confident that the Penampang squad will deliver positive results in their third LBR match this weekend."I was made to understand that the main line-ups are ready for the coming match."And I hope we will obtain a win as it will be a morale boost for the players, especially in their next matches," he said, while urging football fans in the district to come and support the team.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.
