Yang takes a two-shot lead

Kuala Lumpur: World number 10, Amy Yang stormed home with an eight-under 63 to take a two-shot lead in the opening round of the 2016 Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia held at East Course, TPC Kuala Lumpur, Bukit Kiara, here Thursday.The 27-year-old South Korean, who joined the LPGA Tour in 2008, was delighted that she managed to have a blemish free opening round.Yang, who teed off from the first tee-box, shot four birdies on her first nine and in the second nine, she shot another birdie at par-four 13th and later had three consecutive birdies, starting from the par-three 15th.ADVERTISEMENT "In the last four holes, I hit really solid, close to the pin. Like all day, my putting was good, Just happy to shoot a bogey free round," quipped Yang.Yang have won two LPGA Tour, LPGA KEB-HanaBank Championship in 2013 and Honda LPGA Thailand in 2015.Meanwhile, unheralded American, Marina Alex,26, stole the limelight in the opening round after she fired a six-under-par 65."I putted great. Obviously anyone who shoots a low number is going to say they putted well. I worked a little bit on it yesterday and it really felt good on the course. I holed a bunch putts, some were 20 to 30-footers, so it was really nice to see some long putts go in the hole."ADVERTISEMENT Following with three shots behind the leader were six players, who shared third place with identical score of five-under 66.They are the 2014 champion and Rio Olympic bronze medallist, Shanshan Feng of China, Suzann Pettersen of Norway, Azahara Munoz of Spain, Jenny Shin of South Korea and two Americans, Mo Martin and Michelle Wie.

World number one, Lydia Ko of New Zealand, currently shared 30th place with 12 other golfer including Malaysia's Jean Chua, after posting an even-par 71."I made a really clumsy double bogey on the second hole (par-four). I hit a great driver and then I just leaked a shot into the water.
