Three more suspects freed

Tawau: Three senior officers of the Water Department here were released on Thursday after being remanded for three days to assist investigations into the RM3.3 billion scandal involving the department.Magistrate Amir Shah Amir Hassan released the two engineers on a bail of RM200,000 in two local sureties each, while their assistant was released on a bail of RM50,000 in two local sureties, all undeposited.

They were among 23 people arrested since the scandal came to light on Oct 4 this year.

Meanwhile, the Kota Marudu Welfare and Community Association regretted the recent power abuse scandal by senior civil servants in the State.

Its President Rejolin John said the allocation of RM3.3 billion entrusted to them should have been used to uplift infrastructure like roads, water supply and bridges in the rural areas.

Rejolin added that with the allocation provided by the Government, it could have helped raise the poor's standard of living.
