Kuala Lumpur: Airlines are free to operate at any airport, given the airport has sufficient space to accommodate the company's operations, says Transport Deputy Minister Datuk Aziz Kaprawi. He was responding to AirAsia Bhd's plans to move to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (klia2)."If space is available, then, no problem...however, the question is whether there is space available in KLIA to accomodate AirAsia," he told reporters after delivering his keynote speech in conjunction with the one-day Urban Public Transportation Summit 2016 Thursday.ADVERTISEMENT Aziz also noted that both airports were offering similar facilities and following the revision of passenger service charges (PSCs) by the Malaysian Aviation Commission recently, the charges rate in klia2 was lower than KLIA."I don't undertsand why AirAsia wants to move to KLIA. We got to ask AirAsia what is their actual intention, but if Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd have space for AirAsia, so why not?," he asked.Earlier in his luncheon keynote address on 'Toward Sustainable Transportation in Malaysia', Aziz said the Urban Public Transport (UPT)-NKRA (National Key Results Area) had implemented two initiatives to manage user-demand on public transport rather than to use their private vehicles. "The first initiative is to review parking rates, which will only be implemented after the entire public transport structure is up and running.ADVERTISEMENT "In fact, a new mobile app, namely 'Journey Planner' will be introduced by Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) which is expected to help commuters better plan their trips using public transport," said Aziz.He added the ministry had also set up a target to be amongst the top 20 countries in the Logistics Performance Index, under the National Logistics and Trade Facilitation Master Plan.

"This, in turn will translate into an increase in transport and warehouse contribution as a percentage of GDP from the present 3.7 per cent to 4.3 per cent, which in absolute terms is RM50.8 billion. "Essentially, it creates 146,000 more high skilled jobs in the logistics sector," he said. – Bernama
