Lahad Datu: A 27-year-old man was killed after his house at Felda Sahabat 5, Desa Kencana, was destroyed in a fire on Wednesday. The charred remains of Nowel Nasaru was found inside the premises soon after firefighters put out the fire.District Fire and Rescue Department Chief, Mohd Apandi Mahmood, on Thursday said two fire engines manned by eight firefighters were deployed to the scene after being alerted at about 9.09pm.

"We took about 18 minutes to control the blaze from spreading to other premises and once the fire was brought under control, we found the remains of the victim."The fire was put out at 11.24pm and the operation ended shortly after that," he said, adding that they were assisted by the Volunteer Firefighters team and personnel from the Malaysia Civil Defence Force and police.
Apandi added that the cause of fire and losses are still under investigations. Last August, a 27-year-old was also killed after he got trapped inside a double-storey terrace house which caught fire in Sandakan.
