Kuala Lumpur: Former Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal Monday gave a statement at the Bukit Aman Police headquarters for having allegedly revealed government secrets in the Dewan Rakyat. The MP for Semporna was there for about an hour from 9.45am.

Mohd Shafie said to reporters outside the police headquarters that a police officer with the rank of ASP recorded his statement. He is alleged to have revealed the secrets during the debate on the 2017 Supply Bill.

"I consider this just a process of intimidation. MPs are entitled to speak in accordance with Article 63(2) of the Federal Constitution. We cannot touch on certain matters, for example racial issues," he said.

Seputeh MP Teresa Kok and former Batu Umno Division vice-chief Datuk Seri Khairuddin Abu Hassan were seen outside Bukit Aman.

Meanwhile, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar, when contacted, confirmed that Mohd Shafie was at the Bukit Aman Police headquarters but declined to elaborate.

Khalid had said last Friday that three former Cabinet ministers would be investigated under the Sedition Act 1948 and the Official Secrets Act 1972 for having allegedly revealed government secrets, including pertaining to 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

The two others, Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and former Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah, have yet to give their statements. – Bernama
