Kota Kinabalu: Commercial vehicles have again been reminded on the requirement to install Sirim standard reflectors on the rear and sides of their vehicles.Road Transport Department Sabah Director Datuk Mohd Suhaili Mohd Taufek gave the reminder following the directive, which will be enforced on Jan 1 next year, as announced by Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai in June this year. This came after several heavy vehicles across the country were still found installed with poor quality reflectors which did not reflect light effectively, especially during the night.

"The measure has been planned a long time ago by the department's Automotive Engineering Division in Putrajaya to reduce fatal accidents due to poor visibility, particularly during the night."However, some are still found with reflectors that are not according to the standard specified by the department," said Suhaili after attending a Sirim standard rear and side marking installation briefing and demonstration, here, Thursday. He said the directive applies to commercial vehicles which includes nine-seater vehicles and above, as well as school buses and heavy vehicles. "In Sabah only two companies have so far received Sirim certification, namely 3M Malaysia Sdn Bhd and Orafol Reflective Solutions Sdn Bhd.
