Port Klang can move up to 11th: Liow

PORT KLANG: The Transport Ministry is confident that Port Klang's 11.3 per cent growth in container volume in the third quarter of this year could help improve the port's World Container League ranking from 12th to 11th position, said Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai. He said Port Klang, comprising Northport and Westport, is becoming more competitive, steadily recording double-digit growth in TEUs (20-foot equivalent units) of cargo handled over the past 10 months. "We hope we can move our position from 12th in the World Container League to 11th with the increase of TEUs going through Port Klang.

"I am happy to see the able leadership of Tan Sri Kong Cho Ha in the Port Klang Authority (PKA), to push forward our competitiveness in Port Klang," he told a press conference after launching the Westport Bunkering Services (WEBS) facility here Tuesday.
