Tuaran: State Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor on Saturday launched the Cleft Lip & Palate (CLAP) Awareness Campaign which will be held in Sabah from June 1 to June 8, 2017.The campaign is organised by the CLAP For Joy community support group spearheaded by Dr Charles Lee of the KPJ Sabah Specialist Hospital.

According to Lee, the campaign was launched early so as to create greater awareness among the public, especially those affected, so as to make it a success.

"CLAP For Joy is a non-profit Cleft Lip & Palate (CLAP) community support group of professionals, families with children born with cleft lip and palate and friends to help the underprivileged CLAP children in Sabah receive excellence in healthcare, dentition, speech and education from infancy to adulthood.

"One out of every 700 children are born with cleft lip and palate. So please join us to make tomorrow better for them," he appealed.

"They deserve a chance to achieve joy, and equal right to shine too. They need all the help and support to achieve their dreams," he added.

CLAP For Joy can be contacted through tel. no 016-8245224 or by surfing www.clapforjoy.org.

The launch of the campaign was held in conjunction with the 2016 State-level OKU (People With Disabilities) Carnival held at the Dewan Sri Sulaman here.

Present were State Welfare Director Mohd Noor Wahab; Tuaran District Officer AM Ibnu AK Baba and Sabah Society for the Blind President Datuk Rosalind Chew.
