Goh-Tan advance to HK Open second round

Kuala Lumpur: World No. 1 pair Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong lived up to their billing as top seeds by checking into the second round of the Hong Kong Open on Wednesday following a convincing win over Denmark's Kim Astrup-Anders Skaarup Rasmussen. The Malaysian duo, who suffered a shock first round defeat at the China Open last week, needed only 41 minutes to notch a 21-14, 21-15 win over the Danes, reported the New Straits Times. V Shem-Wee Kiong, will play the winner of the match between China's Liu Cheng-Zhang Nan and Indonesia's Berry Angriawan-Hendra Setiawan next for a place in the quarter-finals.

The Malaysian pair, who are hoping to end the year on a high, take on South Korea's Kim Jae Hwan-Yoo Yeon Seong on Thursday. Women's doubles Vivian Hoo Kah Mun-Woon Khe Wei and men's singles Chong Wei Feng also cleared the first round and will take to court on Thursday where they face third seeds Kamilla Rytter Juhl-Christina Pedersen of Denmark and H.S. Prannoy of India respectively.
