Kota Kinabalu: The 10-day Wings Big Bike Ride Sabah tour ended with a finale reception in the city on Thursday. The 15-man Wings big bike convoy led by Awie (Ahmad Azhar Othman) together with the participation of four riders from Wing's own riding club and members of the Harley Owners Group North Borneo chapter covered 11 stops throughout the State where they took the opportunity to meet with Wings fans, in addition to promoting and also selling concert tickets for their Wings 30th anniversary concert on Dec 24 in Kota Kinabalu.

Speaking to the media at Shenanigans Hyatt Kinabalu, Awie said the road trip was a relaxing and smooth journey in his opinion with no major problems.

"Of course we faced weather conditions such as rain on our rides but our biggest challenge was the Kalabakan road between Keningau and Tawau. It required our total concentration. Luckily the weather conditions at that time were dry and there was no rain.

"If the weather had turned bad, then definitely there would be problems as any road potholes would be filled with water then and if we were to ride into one we would risk falling. We only encountered rainy weather at Kudat and Lahad Datu and Tawau."

According to Awie, they have also made a recording of their Sabah road trip journey and would be providing a copy to Sabah Tourism Board as well.

Meanwhile, K4MI Mutiara Global Managing Director cum main organiser Datuk Sharulnizad Suboh thanked the State Government and its various agencies for its assistance in making the Wings Big Bike Ride Sabah tour and coming Wing's Sabah December concert a success.

He added a portion of ticket sales will be channelled to the Sabah Disabled People's Sports and Recreation Club (Pesron) together with a portion of any sponsorship received.

Sabah Tourism Board Chairman Datuk Johniston Bangkuai, when met at the event, said he welcomed the announcement to provide STB with a copy of the Wings Big Bike Ride Sabah tour.

"Awie is a Malaysian celebrity and the footage of his Sabah road trip here can only encourage more interest from other visitors who may be also interested in similar activities (riding adventures) in the State.

"Although Sabah is already well known internationally for its natural beauty, the Wings Big Bike Ride Sabah tour trip footage can only add to the tourism destination appeal of the State."

Also present at the event was Sabah paralympic athlete Filicia Mikat who was chosen as the concert icon.
