Kota Kinabalu: Former Sabah MCA Liaison Committee organising secretary Ding Ting Ping @ Allen Ding was conferred the 'Darjah Pangkuan Seri Melaka' award, which carries the title 'Datuk' in conjunction with the 78th birthday of Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Malacca, Tun Mohd Khalil Yaakob recently. He was bestowed the award upon the recommendation by the party's former top leadership.

Ding is also the founder of Asia's first underwater scooter, Scuba-Doo, and has been active in community association activities.

He was appointed as the first organising secretary of Sabah MCA Liaison Committee when the party penetrated into East Malaysia in 1993.

Together with the first State MCA Liaison Committee chairman Tan Sri Ting Chew Peh and other leaders, they successfully established 18 divisions in Sabah.

Ding also served as the deputy chairman of MCA Gaya Division while the late Datuk Chau Tet On was the chairman.

When Tan Sri Dr Fong Chan Onn took over the helm of the State MCA Liaison Committee, Ding retired from politics and turned his focus to business.

He founded Scuba-Doo and operated at Tunku Abdul Rahman Park. The underwater scooter was a big hit among local and foreign tourists alike.

Business aside, Ding is also actively involved in community associations. He is currently the vice executive committee president of Kota Kinabalu Kwong Siew Association, life member of Kota Kinabalu Hokkien Association, life member of Royal Sabah Turf Club (RSTC) and member of Kota Kinabalu Toastmasters Club.

Ding and his wife, Datin Chee Len Choo @ Cecilia Chee have two sons and two daughters.
