Tawau: Police are viewing seriously the attempts by certain people who "used" politicians' names to avoid police inspection, said District Police Chief ACP Fadil Marsus. He said police will not compromise on such attitude because it could only bring the wrong perception among the people on police's commitment to prevent crimes. He said police will carry out continuous operations against any illegal activity regardless of who is behind such operation.

Fadil said this when commenting on Sebatik Assemblyman Datuk Abdul Muis Picho (pic) who claimed there are some people who use his name, claiming that certain contrabands are his, in order to avoid police inspection.Fadil said such act will not only taint the name of the politician but also the reputation and credibility of the country's enforcement process."This situation is extremely disappointing because there are still people who believe that name dropping would get them off the hook when they commit crime," he said.According to him, these opportunists are very dangerous because they are looking for an easy way out just by quoting politicians' names.

"We hope stern action will be taken by enforcement teams if they encounter similar cases and ensure our integrity and credibility remain intact," he said.Earlier, in his statement, Muis said there is a syndicate whose modus operandi includes using his name to smuggle controlled and subsidised items between Tawau and Sebatik Island.
