PETALING JAYA: Private higher education institution, Taylor's Business School's students made an impressive effort on unity during the 'Projek57 Social Enterprise Project' awards presentation ceremony held recently. Projek57 collaborated with Taylor's University Business School to engage 242 students in a social enterprise project as part of their community service module.

It is a movement of hope that aims to promote Malaysia's founding values of 1957 – tolerance, diversity, progressiveness and unity and is aimed to shift the focus of Malaysians to do good.

Projek57 sells tee shirts and merchandise with positive and meaningful messages.

Underprivileged distributors receive RM5 for every tee shirt sold, and in addition to that, 40 per cent of Projek57's profits are channelled towards empowering communities who are less fortunate, focusing on Malaysian single mothers and underprivileged youth.

Students conducted surveys asking questions such as how high they rated unity and whether there is hope, whilst raising funds for their chosen beneficiaries with the public.

Three enthusiastic teams of students shared their experience on this journey and were able to collect almost RM70,000 through their social enterprise initiatives.

Projek57 honoured students who made outstanding contributions to the Projek57 Social Enterprise Project during the event.

Deputy Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr Pradeep Nair, Taylor's University who is also co-founder of Projek57 presented the prizes to the winning teams.

Team Hope For Fugees Nation were chosen as the Best Overall Team and received RM3,000 for their efforts.

Team Bring It were Best Runner-Up and received RM1,500.

Team Projek57@TU were selected as the team with the Best Video of their journey and received RM1,000 while Team Projek57 Reseller were awarded RM1,000 for the Best Social Media Strategy and Execution.

There was also a special jury prize of RM500 for Best Transformed Team which went to Team Think Love.

Dr. Pradeep said every semester, Taylor's Business School students work on a project under the Community Service Module and this semester, the Semester 3 Business students were tasked to work on a social entrepreneurship project with Projek57.

"Besides spreading the message of hope and unity and contributing to the welfare of the less fortunate, each group was also challenged to design a sustainable Business Model, pitch it and execute it, and conduct impact studies on the project.

"This type of project provides the students service learning hands-on experience, promotes teamwork and the development of the 5Cs skills which are communication, critical thinking and problem solving, collaboration, creativity and innovation, and cultural adaptation skills," he said.

To support this worthy cause, visit the Projek57 outlet on Saturdays and Sundays at Lot G08, Ground Floor, Atria Shopping Gallery.
