C'ship a platform for devt of junior lifters

Kota Kinabalu: The coming National Invitational Weightlifting Championship which is to be held at the Manggatal Hall from December 13-17 will serve as platform for exposure to the State athletes, said Sabah Weightlifting Association (SWA) President Philip Gisan during a courtesy call to Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports Datuk Masiung Banah at his office on Thursday."The competition will be of great help in our development for the young athletes as we try to build for the future apart from excelling at the championship."It is an opportunity for us to feature the young athletes to compete against top weightlifters from 13 MWF (Malaysia Weightlifting Federation) affiliates as well as Putrajaya and the Armed Forces. Singapore too will be sending their weightlifters so the competitions will be very tough."

Philip also said there is a six-day Weightlifting Technical and Coaching Course which will be taking place at the Kota Kinabalu Sports Complex from December 4-9.Meanwhile Masiung, who praised the State body and hopes they will continue the good work in putting Sabah among the top States in the country, said the Ministry will lend their support with additional assistance for SWA to host the invitational championship.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

The Minister also advised associations to make efforts to source for their own funds and not be too dependant on the Ministry. Also present at the meeting were Sabah Sports Council director Terrance Pudin and SWA committee members.
