Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Football Association (Safa) are on the right path to produce more A licence coaches in the State."The State have so far produced 52 coaches with B licence," said Safa Vice President Datuk Yusof Kassim during a press conference on Saturday after the completion of a B licence course at the FA office.

"These are the coaches who are waiting on the wing to get their A licence and we are trying our best to convince FAM to hold the A licence courses here in Sabah.

"As host we are allowed to register more entries where as only two are available for us if it is to hold in other states.

"We need to produce more A licence coaches because this is the requirement for teams participating in the FAM league as well as the President Cup competition.

"And at the moment we only have a few who are holding the A licence such as Justin Ganai, Asyraaf Fong Abdullah, Johnny Dominicus, Andrew Majangkim while Kelly Tham and Stanley Chew are less active nowadays."

Yusof also said it is a new beginning of sort with the increased number of B licence holders and there may be a restructuring of coaching system by the FA soon to maximise their potential in the development of football in the state.

"Can you imagine with the junior players in each district coached by B licence coaches? I am sure there is going to have an immediate impact in the development of the sport in the state."

Meanwhile, R. Gopalkrishnan who has been conducting courses throughout the State for the past two years disclosed that FAM has turned down their request to hold the A licence courses here.

"As what Datuk had just said, we applied to the FAM six months ago but was recently turned down by them.

It is a shame because our intention is to give more opportunities for Sabah coaches to take part however, we can't hold it on our own and we need the blessing from them (FAM)."

The veteran AFC instructor also said that since his arrival here, he has conducted 16 basic courses in 14 districts on request for more than 443 participants.

"Nine C licence courses had also been conducted by me and the number of passes is 139 , and there will be another one coming up in Tenom next week.

" As far as B licence is concerned we have so far conducted four with 52 passes not including today's results, and we also did a goalkeeping level one course recently and the result is not out yet, " he added.

He was pleased with the 750 in total who have attended the various levels of coaching course.

"Our interest is more towards spreading out the courses in all the districts and not merely in Kota Kinabalu.

"Another reason for producing better coaches in all the districts is because one of the main competitions here in the state is the CM Cup and we need qualified coaches to take charge of their respective teams and see their level of performance."

He agreed that the FA must have a structure coaching system.

"We must have some sort of projection during the CM Cup which is an annual ongoing thing .For example in some stage we must say in 2018 all coaches must have a B licence, so everybody who has a B licence will get to coach a team to hone their skills with a structure coaching system."

Also present at the press conference were assistant secretary general Dr Farid Abdullah, executive secretary Hasbullah Yahya, official Amsir Abdullah.
