Kota Kinabalu: Local amateur boxers from four teams in Sabah will be participating in the Tan Sri Ampong Puyon Challenge Trophy scheduled to be held in Sandakan this weekend.According to the Sabah Boxing Association, the participating teams are from Sandakan, Tuaran, Ranau, and the Interior residencies.

The association said the two-day boxing event will kick-off at 1pm on Saturday and will culminate the following day.

"Boxing matches will start daily from 1pm to 6pm and is designed to create an opportunity for the local boxers to gain exposure for future bouts," the association said.

The event which is the last to be organised this year will be exciting and it is for this reason that the association is inviting everyone particularly those in Sandakan and nearby areas to witness the boxing matches.

Last September, Tambunan boxers emerged champions in the Pairin's Zone Interior Cup Trophy which was held in Keningau.

The association regularly organises boxing competitions in Sabah throughout every year spearheaded by its president Datuk Orlando Harumal and strongly supported by all the officials and members including supporters which is designed to promote boxing among the youths in Sabah and the true spirit of sportsmanship.
