Graft: Ex-telekom man charged

Kota Kinabalu: A former Telekom Malaysia ™ Berhad staff was charged in the Special Corruption Court on Tuesday with nine counts of accepting bribes amounting to RM18,700.Satvindar Singh a/l Latchman Singh, 56, pleaded not guilty before Sessions Court Judge Abu Bakar Manaf to all charges against him.Satvindar allegedly committed all the offences at 2pm between June 22, 2009 and Sept 16, 2010 at the Right Method Sdn Bhd office in Taman Friendly, Phase 3, here.ADVERTISEMENT Satvindar as the Acting General Manager of Telekom Berhad Sabah's Property Operation Division at the time allegedly received the bribes from one Wong Kim Len @ Fauziah Wong who was the Manager of Syarikat Right Method (s) Sdn Bhd.The charges stated that Satvindar received the bribes through nine cheques from Wong in return for allowing the company to cut the grass at the TM areas in Tanjung Dumpil, Putatan, Stesen SNS, VHF Bukit Kepayan for 2008, 2009 and 2010.The offence under Section 17(a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009 provides for a jail term of up to 20 years and a fine of not less than five times the amount of bribe received or RM10,000, whichever is higher.The court released Satvindar on a bail of RM20,000 with RM8,000 deposited in a local surety and his passport, if any, to be surrendered to the court until the disposal of his case.ADVERTISEMENT Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.
