Local, 25, on terror rap faces another charge

Kota Kinabalu: A 25-year-old local man charged with providing support to the Islamic State (IS) terror group faces another charge related to the group.Aszroy Achoi, a Bajau, who does menial work, is accused of having 43 pieces of images related to IS at 10am on July 24 this year at the Special Branch's room in the Kota Belud Police Headquarters.

However, no plea was recorded from him after the charge under Section 130JB(1)(a) of the Penal Code was read to him before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie.

The charge carries a jail term of up to seven years or fine and liability of forfeiture any of such images.

Aszroy, was on Aug 17, accused of knowingly giving support to IS on two Facebook accounts under the name of Yohyo Irranun Peace AlBorneozy and Yohyo Illa'nun AlSabah Maliza.

He allegedly committed the offence between May 8 and July 19 this year at Kg Kota Bungan, Jalan Kudat in Kota Belud.

No plea was also recorded from him on the charge framed under Section 130J(1)(a) of the Penal Code which carries an imprisonment for life or jail of up to 30 years or with a fine and liability of forfeiture of any property used or intended to be used in connection with the commission of the offence if convicted on both charges Deputy Prosecutor Wan Farrah Farriza Wan Ghazali informed the court that the prosecution had receive consent for the case to be transferred to the High Court.

Stephanie ordered the case to be transferred to the High Court and ordered Aszroy remanded further.
