Kota Kinabalu: Forty ethnic groups' craftsmen and dancers received a much-needed boost to their craft on Wednesday. The Human Resource Department has moved in to recognise their traits thus allowing them to coach others after attending a two-day 'training the trainers' workshop here. This is the first time the department was involved in the development of traditional craftsmenship, covering dances, music, embroidery and weaving, alongside the Sabah Cultural Board.

The board's chairman, Tan Sri Wences Angang said they were lucky to have the Human Resource Department on board this time in the effort to preserve the ethnic groups' artistic cultures."Every ethnic group in Sabah has its own traits and abilities that could be highlighted to the people. But until today, they don't have any form of recognition and this is important to ensure the roles of these groups of individuals can be passed down to the younger generations," he said during the closing ceremony of the Art Coaching Workshop, here. Also present were Sabah Cultural Board General Manager William Baya and Human Resource Department Director Billy Yumbod.

"With the recognition from the Human Resource Department, the craftsmen would also be more confident and motivated to be good coaches to their students," he said. Representatives from Sabah's 40 ethnic groups took part in the two-day workshop here.
