Sandakan building damaged in fire

Sandakan: A building that houses the One Superstore at Mile 8 near the market here, was damaged in a fire on Wednesday. Fire and Rescue Enforcement Assistant Officer Calvin Joe Jeafery said 17 firefighters were deployed to the area following the 4.39am distress call. The fire was brought under control at about 8.08am.

He said police as well as those from the Malaysia Civil Defence Force, Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd and Sandakan Water Department were also at the scene to assist. It was learnt that the shop sells clothes, books and daily essential items. In a separate case, a terrace house at Lorong Indah 33, Block 100, Taman Jaya Indah was also damaged in a fire the same day. Calvin said nine firefighters brought the fire under control at about 2.40am.
