Kuala Lumpur: AirAsia and Air France Industries KLM Engineering & Maintenance (AFI KLM E&M) have inked a component support agreement for the airline's fleet of Airbus A320neo passenger jets. The contract between the two groups included component repair services and solutions designed to maximise aircraft availability for provision of a local main base kit at its Kuala Lumpur facility, AirAsia said in a statement.

"With the experience of large-scale support for parent airline or third-party airline clients, AFI KLM E&M is able to offer maintenance solutions for very large fleets like those operated by AirAsia," it said.

AirAsia Group Chief Executive Officer Tony Fernandes said the airline was confident AFI KLM E&M would be able to provide the required responsiveness, reliability and performance.

AirAsia has tested the effectiveness of the maintenance, repair and overhaul solutions delivered by AFI KLM E&M which currently provided component support for the A330 fleet operated by AirAsia X.

The support contract has given total satisfaction to the carrier with the agreement being extended in 2013 since initially signed in 2009.
