Woman, son seriously hurt in Ranau mishap

Ranau: A woman and her eight-month-old son were seriously injured when the Perodua Viva car they were in collided with a lorry at Km 4.2 along the Ranau – Lohad road here on Wednesday.The 2.50pm mishap resulted in Nadiah Hj Nurul Ayu Tugiman, 29, fracturing her right leg, while her son, Mohd Izz Aidan Shaafri, also suffered serious injury.

District Police Chief DSP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah, said the incident occurred due to negligence of the 49-year-old lorry driver who was believed to have been intoxicated while driving.

"Initial investigations revealed that the lorry was coming from the Ranau direction towards Lohan road, while the Perodua Viva was from Kg Dobut Langsat heading towards Ranau town.

"The lorry suddenly cut into the opposite direction and collided with the Viva driven by the woman's 28-year-old husband who works as a teacher," he said.

He said the two seriously injured victims were rushed to the Ranau Hospital while the two drivers received outpatient treatment.
