The construction of the Pan Borneo Highway will give long-term benefits to the people of Sabah, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman. He said the project would also provide job opportunities in the various sectors to the people in the State, whether directly or indirectly.

"The job opportunities include those for contractors, consultants, architects, engineers, expert manpower, surveyors and skilled workers and technologists," he said.

Musa said the project was also proof of the commitment of the Federal Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to develop Sabah, and Najib had visited Sabah three times merely for the project.

"This is the style of the PM and the Barisan Nasional (BN) government to improve the welfare of the people in Sabah," he added.

According to Musa, Sabah had asked for a highway to be built in the state for the past 30 years but no other Prime Minister dared to implement the mega project other than Najib.

On the Lahad Datu Short Cut Pan Borneo Highway project stretching seven kilometres at an estimated cost of RM165 million involving the building of two interchanges, Musa said it would give comfort to the people and progress in terms of security especially in the East Sabah Security Command (Esscom).

The Chief Minister also said the BN government would continue to focus on the development agenda so that the progress of the people in the State was guaranteed.
