Kota Kinabalu: Equating Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal with other prominent Sabah leaders such as the late Tun Datu Mustapha Datu Harun and Tan Sri Harris Salleh is actually a compliment instead of an attack.Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) Vice President Junz Wong said the comparison made by Umno man from Semporna Datuk Ainal Fattah only proved that Sabahans actually need the Warisan President more than ever.

"Ainal said both these great men failed in their bids to make political comebacks.

And Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan who did come back failed to become Chief Minister again.

However, I can't understand how he came up with these examples.

"For me, these men were the success stories of Sabah. Berjaya toppled the Usno government.

And Pairin? He was sacked from Berjaya, formed his own party PBS and took over the government in one of the most shocking political upsets in the country," he said.

Shafie, he said, is not making a comeback because he was never the head of the State government anyway and he, just like Pairin, was sacked from his party, but never lost his seat.

Wong said time and time again, Sabahans have proven that the change of government in the State had never depended on the Federal government because Sabahans are capable of charting their own political destiny.

"All these showed that whenever Sabahans unite as one and decide to change one government, then the government falls.

Ainal said there is no difference between Shafie and all these leaders. That is good news then.

Because that would mean that he might just succeed in toppling the BN government in the next general election," he said during a press conference here, Tuesday.

Wong also advised Ainal to question the State government on the supposedly sorry state of Semporna's infrastructure instead of placing all the blame on Shafie as it is the role and responsibility of the State government to develop Sabah as a whole.

Furthermore, he said, instead of just focusing on Semporna, Ainal should also look at other areas which are in worse conditions such as Pitas, Pagalungan, Kota Belud, Tenom, Pensiangan and many other places.

"Some of these villages don't even have road access let alone basic necessity such as water and electricity.

Kota Belud has had two Federal Ministers and even the Parliament Speaker is from Kota Belud.

Is Kota Belud a thriving town with great basic infrastructure?

"Didn't Kota Belud villagers suffer without water supply for quite some time?" he said.

Wong said that Shafie is the right leader for Sabah because, unlike other Umno leaders, he dared to 'betray' the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak by asking him about the 1MDB issue, thus 'failing to act in compliance with the doctrine of collective responsibility'.

Shafie, he said told Najib off at the expense of his government post and party positions for the rakyat and this is the type of leader the people has not seen for a long time in Sabah.

"Shafie is daring, courageous and people-oriented and has Sabah's interest at heart.

This is why he the right man to lead Sabah," he said.
