Advice to avoid last hour X'mas rush

Kota Kinabalu: With Christmas just three days away, operators of long distance buses are reminding the riding public to book their respective tickets early and avoid the 'eleventh hour' rush to avoid disappointments.At the same time, communters are also urged to be at the bus terminals early (an hour or two before the scheduled departure time) for the same purposes.A random survey conducted by Daily Express at the Inanam Bus Terminal revealed that majority of the long distances public buses especially those plying the routes to Sandakan, Lahad Datu, Tawau, Semporna, Kunak and other nearby areas like Keningau, Tenom, Menumbuk, Beufort, Kudat and Sipitang are now experiencing increase number of passengers due to the long Christmas holidays.ADVERTISEMENT It is for this very reason the operators are reminding the public to book their tickets early to avoid unnecessary cancellations of planned holiday trips."Every year during the Christmas holiday we experience increase number of passengers and this month will definitely not be an exemption," the operators stressed.Replying to a question, a representative from Tung Ma Transport Services said the company is ready to provide additional long distance trips when the need arises."Based on our experience from the previous celebrations, we would normally organise additional trips due to the increase of demands from the riding public," the spokesperson said.ADVERTISEMENT The operators also assured the public of the safety aspects of every passenger during the the long journey by assigning two qualified bus drivers per trip.They also confirmed that bus fares will remain the same during the festivity.

"All drivers will undergo proper screenings by their respective companies to ensure they are physically fit for the journey," the operators stressed.All long distance buses originating from Kota Kinabalu (Inanam Bus Termina) will start at 7am and the last trip from Kota Kinabalu is 8pm.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

Meanwhile, several business establishments in the State Capital are also reminding the public to exercise extra cautions when in public places like shopping malls during the Christmas celebration to avoid falling victims to pick pickets."Avoid wearing expensive items when in public places, refrain from using cellphones inside shopping malls unless necessary, and do not leave valuables inside the vehicles," they said adding that parents should always look after their children when in malls.
