World Tour team to participate in LTdL 2017

Putra Jaya: The 2017 edition of the Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) to be held from Feb 22 to March 1 is expected to witness the participation of a top level World Tour team.Without naming the team, LTdL 2017 chief executive officer Emir Abdul Jalal said the organisers were still waiting for feedback from a number of pro continental teams that are interested in competing.Bernama was made to understand that professional cycling outfit, Astana from Kazakhstan, a team that has been participating in the LTdL since 2011, would be a part of the 22nd edition of the tour.

"We are targetting more World Tour teams but the actual number of teams will be announced soon," he told reporters at the launch of the LTdL 2017 route by Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin at the Youth and Sports Ministry here Thursday.Emir said the organisers are still looking for sponsors to host the LTdL since the Youth and Sports Ministry would only allocate RM6 million of the RM10 million needed to host the event.He said the lack of sponsorship was one of the reasons for omitting Langkawi as one of the venues because the logistics involved in staging a stage at Langkawi would cost between RM1.2 to RM1.5 million.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

The 22nd edition featuring eight stages would start in Kuala Terengganu on Feb 22 and end in Putrajaya on March 1, covering a distance of 1,225km.

The first stage starts from Kuala Berang to Kuala Terengganu (130km) second stage Jerteh-Gerik (208.1km), third Serdang-Pantai Remis (118km), fourth Seri Manjung to Cameron Highlands (174km), fifth Tapah-Dataran Merdeka (148.8km), sixth Senawang-Muar (176.3km), seventh Melaka-Bandar Baru Bangi (148.8km) and eight Setiawangsa-Putrajaya (121km).- Bernama
