Kota Kinabalu: DAP's Kota Kinabalu MP Jimmy Wong questioned why Chinese medium primary schools nationwide have yet to receive the promised Federal Government annual allocation for this year to date. "The 2016 Budget promised RM50 million to be distributed to all the Chinese primary schools nationwide.

These Chinese medium primary schools would typically receive this allocation each year from the Federal Government.

"But until today, some of the Chinese primary schools have informed us that they never received any money this year," he said.

He said Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng had also chided the Federal Government regarding this matter.

"Lim told the Federal Government that if they don't have the money, then the Penang government is prepared to give a short term RM50 million loan to the Ministry of Education for distribution to the Chinese medium schools.

"Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak was reported in the local papers to have launched a seven- kilometre stretch of the Pan Borneo Highway in Lahad Datu for a total sum of RM165 million. I now want to ask the PM and Sabah Chief Minister that if you can pay RM165 million for only seven kilometres in Lahad Datu, why can't you find RM50 million for the thousands of Chinese schools nationwide?

"Mind you, this is for seven kilometres only, which costs an average RM23 million for one kilometre.

"Something is definitely wrong here. He (Najib) has said in Parliament that education is important and that it comes first."

Wong said if the Federal Government is really short of cash, it would not be a problem for them to borrow from the Penang state government.

"I'm sure the Penang state government is considerate enough and is willing to give an interest free loan."
