Kunak: Several members including individuals who claimed to represent beneficiaries of Koperasi Skim Kokos Berhad, are upset at being disallowed from taking part in the proceedings of the cooperative's Annual General Meeting held Dec 31.And before it even started, the chairman of the cooperative called off the meeting sending tempers flying among all the members.

They claimed that the instruction to disallow them from taking part in the meeting was given by the chairman without any explanation.

One of them, Reldy Wadie, 57, said he had brought with him a statutory declaration form on behalf of his mother which had been signed by a magistrate at the District Office but was also denied participation in the meeting.

"The statutory declaration under my mother's name should have qualified me to represent her in the meeting," he said, adding that his mother was too old to handle matters with regard to her late husband's inheritance in the corporative.

He said his mother, Arsah Bytol, is currently living with one of her children in Peninsula.

"I don't understand why the chairman refused to allow me to follow the proceedings of the meeting even though I had all the documents, including a signed consent letter from my mother and all my siblings," said Reldy, the eldest in the family.

He said 12 other members and representatives of beneficiaries like him were not allowed to take part in the meeting.

The meeting however never started. According to one of its members, Rosley Edemus, 54, it was postponed by the chairman without giving any reason. He said it was the third time that the meeting had been put off.

"I was made to understand that this is the third time the Annual General Meeting was postponed due to unknown reasons.

And this meeting was supposed to be for the year 2015. It's already long overdue," he said.

He said the meeting that was scheduled to start at 9am that day was also attended by an official from the Malaysian Corporative Commission from Lahad Datu but he made a quick exit through the back door after noticing a commotion outside the hall.

"The official was only there for a few minutes before slipping out the hall through the back door when the commotion started," said Rosley.

He added that some of the members went to meet the official at the cooperative's office but were told that he could not do anything. He also advised them to deal with the chairman themselves.

Rosely said they will bring the matter to the State Director of the Malaysian Cooperative Commission.

The cooperative has 55 members so far.
