Ministry Sec-Gen held; gold and cash seized
Kuala Lumpur: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) seized and impounded cash and gold bars worth about RM3 million following the detention of a secretary-general of a ministry suspected of being involved in corrupt practices, near here, Wednesday.MACC Deputy Chief Commissioner (Operations) Datuk Azam Baki said as a result of the detention, the agency detained another male suspect aged 29.

He said the 29-year-old man was suspected of playing a role in receiving and keeping the proceeds of the corrupt payments from contractors, suppliers and vendors on behalf of the secretary-general, aged 59 and with a 'Datuk' title.

"Both of them were detained around Subang Jaya at 8am today," he said in a statement. Earlier, the secretary-general was detained at his residence in USJ, Subang Jaya on suspicion of abusing his post and position to accept bribes.

Meanwhile, according to sources the items also seized from the suspects were several luxury watches, expensive handbags, fountain pens and foreign currencies.
