Hokkien crooner to perform at KK CNY Carnival

Kota Kinabalu: The Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS) will be flying in Hokkien songs crooner Catherine Yu (pic) from Selangor to perform at this year's Chinese New Year Carnival.Catherine, from Sungai Besar, Sabak Bernam, Selangor, is of Chinese-Indian parentage.

She became a household name for Hokkien song enthusiasts worldwide when she won the World Hokkien Songs Competition held in Fuzhou, China in 2009.

The talented singer started her singing career at the tender age of six and became a professional singer when she was only 13. She had performed in countries like Indonesia, Brunei, Xiamen (China), Taiwan and Singapore.

Announcing this Monday, FCAS President Datuk T.C Goh said Catherine would be performing as guest artist at the opening night of the carnival on January 23.

He reiterated his call to the people, especially those living in and around Kota Kinabalu, to come out in full force to partake in the four-day carnival at Padang Merdeka here from January 23.
