Search for missing angler off Sebatik

Tawau: A search and rescue operation is continuing for a local man who went missing while fishing at Sungai Haji Kuning off the Sebatik waters five days ago. Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Deputy Director (Operations) Romli Mustafa said police informed them of the incident at about 3pm on Sunday. Search and rescue teams comprising five MMEA personnel were deployed to assist. Romli said the missing man has been identified as Raiman Abdul Majid, 38, from Mile 4, Jalan Apas, here."The father of two sons had informed his wife, Sitti Hajah Bangsawan, 39, before going out fishing with some friends. He said the man boarded his boat alone but was separated from the others at about 9pm and failed to return home. ADVERTISEMENT He added that the man's wife lodged a police report and some of their family members with a total of 20 personal boats also went to the site in search of him."A source from Indonesian Police in Sebatik Timur had informed us that a group of fishermen who went fishing at Sebatik Island about 9am on Jan 6 claimed to have found a broken plywood boat floating at Batuan Unarang.

"They also found several belongings believed to belong to the man near the boat, such as fishing equipment, a roll of nylon rope, raincoat with camouflage patterns with the words Khidmat Negara printed on it, among others," he added.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.
