Published on: Wednesday, January 11, 2017

Kota Kinabalu: A legal firm that has been operating out of Tanjung Aru here the past six years was partially damaged by a blaze on Tuesday morning.

The first floor of Lim Guan Sing & Co. at the township was almost 50 per cent destroyed by the fire at about 8.05am.

Its business partner, Datuk Gordon Leong who is also Gerakan Sabah Laision Chief, when contacted, commended the Fire and Rescue Department for their swift action to control the fire that did not totally damage the office.

He said the ground floor of the legal firm was not affected at all by the fire.

According to him, his staff who came in the morning to the office had switched on all the air conditioners and lights.

However, Leong said the staff heard a sound similar to something short circuiting and immediately left the office when they saw sparks and contacted the Fire and Rescue Department.

Sabah Fire and Rescue Services Department Public Relations Officer Mohd Affendy K Ramin said 23 firefighters and four fire engines were deployed to the scene about two kilometres from here upon receiving a distress call at 8.07am.

He said they managed to control the fire from spreading at about 8.24am and the operation ended at 8.56am.

He said no casualties and injuries were reported in the incident the cause of which and losses are still under investigation.
