Lahad Datu records drop in crimes

Lahad Datu: Police here have been reminded to remain committed in providing excellent service regardless of time and to work together to further boost crime prevention efforts and integrity among those in the force. District Police Chief ACP Hamzah Ahmad said this year, they will provide better service to the people through increased operations, improve perception towards the district police and implement more community policing programmes. Hamzah said they will also enhance the integrity and discipline of each member of the police force as well as improve and strengthen their commitment in carrying out their duties.ADVERTISEMENT "Every personnel must committed in implementing their duties regardless of time in order to be more productive, efficient and provide excellent work quality."We should also be ready for any eventuality and not be careless, especially the front line," he said, adding that all personnel should be serious and dedicated in carrying out their duties.Hamzah said this in his speech at the district police monthly assembly on Wednesday.During the ceremony, Hamzah also disclosed that Lahad Datu recorded a drop in crime by 37 cases or 9.89 per cent last year compared to 2015. ADVERTISEMENT He said that 337 cases were recorded last year compared to the 374 cases in 2015.According to Hamzah, 185 cases from the 337 cases last year have been solved with 232 individuals charged in court.

"For narcotic cases, for the supply or drug dealer cases, 91 cases were recorded involving 110 arrests last year and in 2015, 50 cases were recorded involving 75 arrests. This is an increase of 41 cases or 31.81 per cent," he said.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

Hamzah said this was made possible through efforts by police and cooperation from the people and hoped such collaboration would continue for the sake of reducing crime. Certificates of appreciation from the State Police Commissioner and District Police Chief were also presented to deserving policemen and women during the monthly gathering.
