M'sian military officials visit Central Mindanao

Kota Kinabalu: A Malaysian military delegation comprising 30 officials of the Malaysian Armed Forces led by Defence Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Johari Baharum visited Central Mindanao on Thursday.Their visit was to help improve security and strengthen peace efforts between the Philippine Government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).Johari and Infantry Division Commander Major General Carlito Galvez discussed the present situation in Central Mindanao and challenges it could face in the future.

Johari later proceeded to the headquarters of the International Monitoring Team-11 in Cotabato City where he was briefed by the head of mission, Major General Datuk Wira Zamrose Mohd Zain, on the ongoing ceasefire between Philippines and MILF and also on the role of the monitoring team.He also stopped by the MILF central committee headed by Vice-Chairman I Ghazali Jaafar in Cap Darapanam, Siltan Kudarat in Magindanao, where they discussed security and development aspects in Mindanao. Later, he visited the grand mosque in the village of Kalanganan where the team distributed assistance to 30 orphans in Shariff Kabunsuan Orphanage.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

The International Monitoring Team was deployed in Mindanao in 2004.

It comprises 37 members, 16 from Malaysia and the others from Indonesia, Brunei, Japan and European Union to monitor the ongoing ceasefire agreement between Philippines troops and the MILF.
