Kota Kinabalu: The funding of a new building block and track and field facility for Chinese private secondary school, SM Tshung Tsin, received a million ringgit boost from the State Government on Thursday. Special Tasks Minister Datuk Teo Chee Kang announced the State contribution is in recognition of the school's effort in producing excellent human capital crucial for the development of Sabah and Malaysia, generally.

"The RM1 million included the RM250,000 fund provided by the State Government last year.

"The remaining RM750,000 will be given in phases over a span of three years," he said.

Teo made the announcement during the ground-breaking ceremony of the school's new building and sports track.

He was representing Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman, who had to be in Sarawak for the state funeral of Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem, who died on Wednesday afternoon.

The RM1 million pledged is expected to give the school administrator a head start in terms of funding for the school's facilities said to cost around RM10 million.

Musa, in his speech read by Teo, noted the school's performance, adding that it's SM Tshung Tsin approach on emphasising the mastery of the Malay, Chinese and English languages and national examinations which had proven to be beneficial for its students.

"Out of the 315 private schools in the country, SM Tshung Tsin was also voted the third best private school in the country and also listed as one of the top 10 schools in the country, as well as given the five-star rating for three times in a row," he said.

Realising the role the younger generation for the State's future, he said two students from the school were also given Sabah Foundation scholarships.

Towards this end, Musa noted the State Government will continue to aid schools, Chinese and mission schools, as well as non-Islamic organisations, adding that the Government was also concerned about the issues and needs of private secondary schools in the State.

Also present at the ceremony were Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister Datuk Edward Yong, Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Kota Kinabalu Peijie, Mayor Datuk Yeo Boon Hai and the school's Board of Governors Chairman Datuk Jimmy Yong Kyok Ming.
