Kota Kinabalu: Former Sabah team manager Ronald Cooke who guided the State football team to win the 1995 FA Cup championship supported Chief Minister and Sabah Football Association President Datuk Seri Musa on his no nonsense approach to rejuvenate Sabah football. In a press statement released on Monday, Cooke said he welcomes Musa's stand on revamping Sabah Football Association (Safa).

"I fully support Datuk Seri Musa on his no nonsense approach to rejuvenate Sabah football which has been in the doldrums for nearly 20 years."

He said officials have nothing to show in these years except promises at the beginning of the season and hundreds of excuses at the end of the season.

"It has always been a blame game by the officials. I and many others avid football fans of Sabah believe we have the talents in our young footballers. It is the officials who are sleeping on the job.

"We need real changes not just cosmetic. I believe our Chief Minister is serious about it by his clear message to the Safa officials.

"Managers have come and gone. Players have come and gone but officials at Safa seem like permanent furniture.

They have never changed or stepped aside to allow new officials with vision to take over."

He called on the officials to take hints and quit their posts.

"If these officials really love this sport, it is time for them to quit if they read between the lines of the statement by the Safa president.

"It is time to quit now. You have failed over and over again. It is time to let a new energetic team of officials to take over.

"I believe that many ex-State players would prove to be better bets to assists the Chief Minister in taking Safa to better heights and bring back the glory of yesteryears."

He urged Safa to take advantage of talents available from former state players who recently had a re-union and who really love and know the game well.
