Kota Kinabalu: Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah will be suing over erroneous reports, especially in the broadcast media, about its party President Datuk Seri Lajim Ukin being declared bankrupt by the Sabah and Sarawak court. The party said it would raise funds from among party leaders and members to pay for Lajim's legal fees.

Its Deputy President Datuk Maijol Mahap said the incorrect reports had wrongfully implicated Lajim as he was only issued with a bankruptcy notice that is part of a normal proceeding under Rule 91 Bankruptcy Notice.

"Although Lajim was issued with such notice, the party president is still not a bankrupt and there was also no declaration by the High Court that he (Lajim) is a bankrupt.

"The bankruptcy notice was issued to our party president published in a local paper on Monday and following issuance of the notice, various assumptions were made.

"What was really disturbing was a TV station that aired a wrong report at 5pm on Monday where the newsreader stated that the Sabah and Sarawak Court had declared Lajim a bankrupt. We also found a video-sharing of the TV news on YouTube.

"There is no truth in what was reported about our president.

Therefore, we feel that the wrong report by the TV station clearly had malicious intent towards Lajim," he told a press conference after chairing a Supreme Council meeting at the party's headquarters along Jalan Kepayan-Lintas, Tuesday.

He said the Supreme Council members unanimously made a strong stand to continue solidly supporting Lajim and be with him in facing such challenge.

"Second, the Supreme Council also agreed to consider filing a defamation suit against certain quarters that made incorrect and embarrassing reports on the party president."

"We are raising the funds not because our President cannot afford to pay the legal fees but we sincerely want to show our strong support and solidarity towards our President.

"Also, we want to portray our stand that we are fully behind the leadership of Lajim," he said.

To a question, Maijol said they are very confident that Lajim will settle the debt amount as stated in the notice.

It was reported that a bankruptcy notice had been issued against Lajim over a payment of RM160,851.81 due to CIMB Islamic Bank Berhad.

Lajim was given a week from the date to pay the amount to the lawyers of the company in line with the High Court Judgment on Oct. 26, 2016.

The bankruptcy notice said the amount due was based on a judgment from Sessions Courts in Kota Kinabalu on March 14, 2016.

Lajim who is also Klias Assemblyman said the notice was published as the lawyers could not issue the claims to him in person.

He said he has two months to settle the amount as stated in the notice.
