Foundation gives RM115,100 to education bodies, teachers

Kota Kinabalu: A non-governmental organisation, the Progressive Education Foundation (PEF) disbursed education relief and aid totalling RM115,100 to various educational organisations and teachers of Chinese schools and kindergartens in Sabah, for this year.Its Management Council member Melanie Chia said the total disbursement derived from its General Fund and its Special Fund to benefit five educational organisations and 32 teachers teaching in the Chinese primary schools and kindergartens.She said such monetary contribution was given to the recipients to reflect the foundation's continuous support in empowering the education sector in Sabah.ADVERTISEMENT "We are grateful and thankful that PEF is able again to contribute its annual cheques to several educational organisations and to teachers of the Chinese schools and kindergartens."Under the General Fund, a total of RM25,200 was contributed to the Montfort Training Centre (MYTC), RM13,642 for Seri Mengasih Centre, RM5,750 for Kadazandusun Language Foundation (KLF) and RM6,188 was given to care and help individuals to learn and develop," she said. Chia said this at the handing over of the cheques at the SRJK © Chung Hwa. here.She said the contributions from the Special Fund are aimed to encourage and appreciate the 32 teachers for their dedication, commitment and sacrifice in educating the pupils in Chinese primary schools and kindergartens."We want to congratulate the 32 teachers for having successfully completed their training where 30 of them are now teaching in Chinese primary schools and two in the kindergarten.ADVERTISEMENT "As a token of encouragement and appreciation for taking up the teaching posts in the schools and contribute to the development of Chinese education, we are disbursing RM19,500 to them."We are also contributing a sum of RM25,000 to the United Association of Private Chinese Secondary School Committee for the in-service training of your teachers during the school holidays.

"Furthermore, we had already disbursed a sum of RM20,000 to the Chinese School Teachers Association that had organised a holiday in service training for the Chinese primary schoolteachers," said Chia.She hoped that the humble effort of the foundation will help in the building of a civil and progressive society in Sabah.Meanwhile, the Kinabalu Foundation Chairman Datuk Chin Chee Kee said the establishment of his foundation has the same objectives as that of the PEF which are to provide financial assistance to all poor and needy students in Sabah.He commended the noble contribution of PEF that was established in 1995 with the objective of assisting and sponsoring the advancement of education, especially the Chinese education in Sabah."At the time of the establishment, there was a lack of Chinese teachers as well as the necessary materials and tools to further the objectives of advancing the teaching of Chinese education in Sabah."Hence, the PEF provided the necessary contributions and incentives to the teachers in various teachers' training colleges in Sabah and at the same time encourage the youths to be involved and indulge in the field of teaching profession," Chin said.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

He said Kinabalu Foundation offers interest-free education loan to students wanting to pursue higher education locally or overseas, including Taiwan.Also present were PEF founder Datuk Seri Yong Teck Lee and recipients of the educational organisations and the teachers.
