No M'sians left in men's singles

Sibu: Malaysia will be without a representative in the quarterfinals of the men's singles competition in the Victor Far East Malaysia Masters badminton championships as Tan Jia Wei and Chong Wei Feng were shown the exit by their opponents from Indonesia.Jia Wei lost to Muhammad Bayu Pangisthu 18-21, 10-21 in straight sets while Anthony Sinisuka Ginting defeated Wei Feng 15-21, 21-23, also in straight sets.

The quarterfinal looks set to be dominated by Indonesians, as seventh and eighth seeds Tommy Sugiarto and Jonatan Christie, as well as Wisnu Yuli Prasetyo, all made the cut.

Sugiarto defeated Lee Cheuk Yiu of Hong Kong 21-10, 21-17; Jonatan beat compatriot Shesar Hiren Rhustavito 24-22, 21-16 while Wisnu led 14-8 in the first set before his opponent Pannawit Thongnuam of Thailand withdrew from the match.

Jonatan will face top seed Angus Ng Ka Long of Hong Kong who beat 16th seed from Indonesia, Ihsan Maulana Mustofa, 21-14, 21-14 while Sugiarto will take on Wisnu in an all Indonesian quarterfinal.

Muhammad Bayu will go up against South Korean veteran, Lee Hyun Il, the fifth seed who disposed Taiwan's Chen Chun Wei 21-14, 21-7.

Anthony Sinisuka will meet sixth seed Ajay Jayaram of India, who beat Hsueh Hsuan Yi of Taiwan 21-12, 15-21, 21-15. – Bernama
